Shivasamudram, Karnataka

Bangalore and nearby area are situated on Deccan Plateau having average elevation of 3020 feet above sea level. Due to this elevation Bangalore enjoys cool breeze and equable climate all through the year. Temperature rarely goes below 12 degrees or above 30 degrees Celsius. Several small and large hills, good amount of rains have resulted in monsoon rivulets and lakes which form delightful part of the landscape. Falls are also formed in various places. Shivasamudram Falls is one such lovely example where water falls down about 380 feet. This Falls is a fragmented falls best seen during monsoon. Shivasamudram is a small town on the banks of Kaveri in Mandya district of Karnataka. It is about 130 km from Bangalore. Road snakes through populated villages having temples and dargahs. Bridges are also narrow therefore careful and patient driving is suggested.
Water falling down 380 feet

Kaveri river meanders it's way through rocks & boulders of Deccan Plateau. The river splits in two channels before it reaches the town and falls down 380 feet in fragmented Falls. Roaring and abundant Falls are seen in monsoon.

Of the two channels the western one falls on the left side and is called as Gaganchukki. The eastern channel falls on right side and is called Bharachukki. These two channels are not close but are separated by a few kilometers. Bharachukki has natural surroundings and the scenery here is beautiful. Fall of water generates mist which adds to the beauty.

This place also boasts of first hydro electric power station in Asia set up in 1902. It was commissioned by Diwan of Mysore Sir K Seshadri Iyer. First town to receive the hydro electricity was Kolar Gold fields.
